Theocratic Audacity (UPDATE)

In his spin conference today, Marack was asked what the consequences should be for actions taken against the government so far (that would be the tear gassing, beatings, and killings part). Marack, limpwristed king of the wussies replied: ...the world is watching and Iran should understand how they handle the dissent generated internally will "help shape the tone" for Iran's future. When you read this blog you should just assume that my middle finger is always pointed at Marack.

In a move that is sure to inflame the people on the streets of Iran the mullahs, in what I can only see as an act of insanity, charged a family the equivolent of $3000 to repay the government for the bullet used to kill their son, Kaveh Alpur, who was shot in the head during the protests on Saturday. They were refusing to release his body until they paid the money. They finally released him however, when the family made it clear that they did not have that kind of money. The father, and Iran-Iraq war vet, was then told that he was not allowed to be buried inside the city. Kaveh's picture is now being displayed in the windows of businesses in the neighborhood in which he lived.

As I mentioned in the last post, public mourning has been banned. Mosques have been closed to funeral services. This decisiion comes in the wake of the killing of Neda Agha-Soltan, whose death has become an international symbol of the movement. The mullahs, aware of the status her slaying has achieved, do not want her funeral, or any others, to become a focal point for the protests. In 1979, funerals became rallying points that helped turn protests into full scale revolution.

Yeah, charging families for the bullets you killed their kids with, and preventing them from holding funerals...that won't piss anyone off. Personally, I think the mullahs have soiled their robes over this.
