How can one be compelled to accept slavery? I simply refuse to do the master's bidding. He may torture me, break my bones to atoms and even kill me. He will then have my dead body, not my obedience. Ultimately, therefore, it is I who am the victor and not he, for he has failed in getting me to do what he wanted done. ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Are You Really What You Eat?

Many people look at the so-called election that took place in Gaza and conclude that the people of Gaza support the eradication of Israel and the establishment of a Islamic caliphate, approve of their methods, and/or are complicit in what is happening now. Still there are others who say that Israel is attacking the duly elected government that represents the people of Gaza.

People seem to forget that their other choice in that election (which was fabricated by the United States under the direction of that miserable failure in knee high boots, Condoleeza Rice) was Fatah, a party that, under Yassir Arafat, and then under Mahmoud Abbas, embezzled billions in financial and material aid, keeping them in abject poverty and pawns in a scheme where terror is more profitable than peace. Seeing their leaders driving BMWs and wearing fine Italian suits while there are people without indoor plumbing, etc probably didn’t help matters.

Hamas ran an excellent propaganda campaign, opening clinics and schools. Even though the majority of Gazans are not subscribers to the radical Islamist agenda that is incrementally bringing sharia law to the territory, when faced with a choice between what they had before and something seemingly the lesser of two evils, or something new, they chose Hamas (which, ironically ran as the "Change and Reform" coalition in conjunction with a handful of non- Hamas candidates).  Every four years we end up doing the same thing. Both our parties are demonstrably corrupt. Both have endorsed and legislated an eroding of our constitutional rights, etc. The big difference is that they’re not forcing us to live at the end of a barrel of a gun…not yet anyway.

Though the current sentiment on the streets of Gaza may be anger and outrage with Israel, I suspect that if you gave them the choice of living in peace and coexisting with Israel, or living with Hamas rule and the constant threat of bombings and infiltration by the IDF, I have to believe that they would choose the former. The problem is that currently there is no force in the Palestinian body politic that has the power to stand up to the armed thugs running things.

The fact that the world community has not made any moves to change this speaks to the worldwide acceptance of the genocidal policies of both Fatah and Hamas. So to me the question is not whether there are enough peaceful Palestinians to work with, but whether there are enough players in the world at large that don’t tacitly support the destruction of Israel, that will help dismantle the terror kleptocracy, and give the Palestinian people the chance to build legitimate political institutions that function without the destruction of Israel as their raison d’etre.

The fact that the United States has also largely been silent on that issue, and has sought to legitimate the corrupt Fatah apparatus as a political body, is the best argument in refuting the misguided notion that there is a Jewish/Pro Israel cabal that is influencing our foreign policy, in addition to the fact that our State Department is notorious for selling out Israeli security interests in favor of OPEC, a long standing currency the United States will spend to keep oil prices low when necessary.

The Hamas margin of victory was not that great either in terms of percentages, not one that anyone would call a mandate (though it garnered around 30 more seats that Fatah in the parliament). Perhaps there should have been a third choice on the ballot: "Why don't both of you go fuck yourselves?" I have a feeling that would have been the winner.

The Palestinian people have faced shit, shittier and shittiest as their choices for years. If the world community really gave a flying fuck about the Palestinian people they would do something about that fact. So far the world community's solution is fuck Israel. The only reason that option hasn't worked out is that Israel has more weapons.

Fact: Israel is not going to allow a Palestinian state to be formed when it is going to be run by a terror kleptocracy, and all the bitching by Leftist arm-chair protestors, who have nothing to lose or gain other than a selfish feeling of [false] moral superiority, is not going to change that fact.

Fact: If you object to Israeli military action in Gaza and are not actively working to help end the terror kleptocracies standing in the way of peace, then you are not a friend of the Palestinians, you are anti-Israeli.

Fact: Israel, in the end, doesn't give a fuck whether Left Wing American arm-chair protestors march in the streets. It's just another reminder of how little value the world gives Jewish lives since they never open their fat thoughtless mouths when Jewish children die.

So if you really care about the Palestinians you'll actually do something to help them be able to live free of the terror kleptocracies that do nothing but insure war with Israel without end. But that would entail actually doing something other than bitching.

Good luck with that.

I can try to translate it later today when I get home, but it confirms what you say. They claim that poverty is not an issue, and that they aren't usng civilians as shield, the civlians volunteer to sacrifice themselves.

Shtuey, thank you for this, it helps me getting more clarity. I am devastated by some of the press and comments in Europe also. It is, as you say, a false moral attitude and as I said downthread, a short cut, make myself feel better, victim identification, fanning the fire. I am commenting in many places trying to make some people look at the facts and this post helps me in this endeavour.

read your essay while listening to a report on NPR about the tunnels. Egyptians gleefully speaking out on how they will continue to do "business" in the tunnels....Not out of LOVE for their palestinian brethren but because it's just business...Sheeesh!
Xcellent essay...was the best antidote I needed while listening to the NPR report. Thanks.

THE DEMONS OF GAZA
ONLY HAMAS IS TO BLAME FOR THE WAR; ONLY THE PALESTINIANS CAN STOP IT
January 10, 2009
Ralph Peters
The New York Post

Israel hasn't killed a single civilian in the Gaza Strip. Over a hundred
civilians have died, and Israeli bombs or shells may have ended their lives.
But Israeli didn't kill them.
Hamas did.
It's time to smash the lies. The lies of Hamas. The UN lies. And the
save-the-terrorists lies of the global media.
There is no moral equivalence between Hamas terrorists and Israeli soldiers.
There is no gray area. There is no point in negotiations.
Hamas is a Jew-killing machine. It exists to destroy Israel. What is there
to negotiate?
When Hamas can't kill Jews, it's perfectly willing to drive Palestinian
civilians into the line of fire - old men, women and children. Hamas herds
the innocent into "shelters," then draws Israeli fire on them. And the
headline-greedy media cheer them on.
Hamas isn't fighting for political goals. "Brokered agreements" are purely
means to an end. And the envisioned end is the complete destruction of
Israel in the name of a terrorist god. Safe in hidden bunkers or in
Damascus, the Hamas leadership is willing to watch an unlimited number of
civilians and even street-level terrorists die.

Lives, too, are nothing but means to an end. And dead kids are the coins
that keep the propaganda meter ticking.
All Hamas had to do to prevent Israel's act of self-defense was to leave
Israel unmolested by terror rockets. All Hamas needs to do now to stop this
conflict and spare the Palestinian people it pretends to champion is to stop
trying to kill Israelis and agree to let Israel exist in peace.
Hamas didn't, and Hamas won't.
Now Israel has to continue its attack, to wreak all the havoc it can on
Hamas before a new American president starts meddling. If Israel stops now,
Hamas can declare victory just for surviving - despite its crippling losses.
While it's impossible to fully eliminate extremism, killing every terrorist
leader hiding in a Gaza bunker is the only hope of achieving even a
temporary, imperfect peace. The chance may not come again.
And don't worry about "creating a power vacuum." Let the Palestinians pick
up their own pieces. Even anarchy in Gaza is better for Israel than Hamas.
Israelis, Americans and Westerners overall share a tragic intellectual blind
spot: We're caught in yesterday's model of terrorism, that of Arafat's PLO,
of the IRA, the Red Brigades or the Weather Underground. But, as brutal as
those organizations could be, they never believed they were on a mission
from God.
Yesteryear's terrorists wanted to change the world. They were willing to
shed blood and, in extreme cases, to give their own blood to their causes.
But they didn't seek death. They preferred to live to see their "better
world."
Now our civilization faces terrorists who regard death as a promotion. They
believe that any action can be excused because they're serving their god.
And their core belief is that you and I, as stubborn unbelievers, deserve
death.
Their grisly god knows no compromise. To give an inch is to betray their
god's trust entirely. Yet we - and even some Israelis - believe it's
possible to cut deals with them.
In search of peace, Israel handed Gaza to the Palestinians, a people who had
never had a state of their own. As thanks, Israel received terror rockets.
And the Palestinian people got a gang war.
Peace is the last thing Hamas terrorists and gangsters want. Peace means the
game is up. Peace means they've disappointed their god. Peace means no more
excuses. They couldn't bear peace for six months.
This is a war to the bitter end. And we're afraid to admit what it's about.
It's not about American sins or Israeli intransigence. It's about a sickness
in the soul of a civilization - of Middle-Eastern Islam - that can only be
cured from within. Until Arabs or Iranians decide to cure themselves, we'll
have to fight.
Instead, we want to talk. We convince ourselves, against all evidence, that
our enemies really want to talk, too, that they just need "incentives" (the
diplomat's term for bribes). The apparent belief of our president-elect that
it's possible to negotiate with faith-fueled fanatics is so naive it's
terrifying.
Yet, it's understandable. Barack Obama's entire career has been built on
words, not deeds, on his power to persuade, not his power to deliver. But
all the caucuses, debates, neighborhood meetings and backroom deal-making
sessions in his past haven't prepared him to "negotiate" with men whose
single-minded goal is Israel's destruction - and ours.
If Obama repeats the same "peace-process" folly as his predecessors, from
Jimmy have-you-hugged-your-terrorist-today? Carter through Bill Clinton and
George W. Bush, he'll be devoured before he knows he's been bitten.
How many administrations have to repeat the identical error of believing
that, deep down inside, terrorists, gunmen and warlords really want peace
every bit as much as we do? Israel's enemies aren't just looking to cut a
sharp deal. They want to destroy Israel.
Which part of what they shout in our faces is so hard to understand?
Israel's foes have been preaching Jew-hatred for so long that even the
"moderates" can't turn back now.
And why does the global left hate Israel so? Why would they pull out the
stops to rescue Hamas?
Because Israel exposed the lie that a suffering people can't lift itself up
through hard work, education and discipline. Israel didn't need the help of
a hundred condescending NGOs and their misery junkies.
Because the Holocaust is a permanent embarrassment to Europeans. They need
to believe that Israelis are kosher Nazis.
Because, from the safety of cafes and campuses, it's cool to call terrorists
"freedom fighters." It makes you feel less guilty when you hit up daddy (or
the state) for money. I mean, dude, it's not like you have to, like, live
with them or anything, you know?
(The preceding sentence is not a direct quote from Caroline Kennedy.)
Because, above all, the most-destructive racists in the world today are
mainstream leftists. Want the truth? The Left codes Israel as white and,
therefore, inherently an oppressor. Israel is held to the highest standard
of our civilization and our legal codes - and denied the right to
self-defense.
But the Left tacitly believes that people with darker skins are inferior and
can't be expected to behave at a civilized level. Leftists expect terrorist
movements or African dictators to behave horribly. It's the post-modern,
latte-sucking version of the "little brown brother" mentality.
The worst enemies of developing societies have been leftists who refuse to
hold them to fundamental standards of governance and decency. But, then, the
Left needs developing societies to fail to prove that the system's
hopelessly stacked against them.
A battered, impoverished, butchered people built a thriving Western
democracy in an Eastern wasteland. Israel can never be forgiven for its
success.
In this six-decade-old conflict that Israel's intractable neighbors continue
to force upon it, there not only are no good solutions, but, thanks to the
zero-sum mentality of Islamist terrorists, there aren't even any bad
solutions - short of nuclear genocide - that would bring an enduring peace
to the Middle East.
And even the elimination of Israel wouldn't be enough. The terrorists would
fight among themselves, while warring upon less-devout fellow Muslims.
All Israel can do is to fight for time and buy intervals of relative calm
with the blood of its sons and daughters. By demanding premature cease-fires
and insisting that we can find a diplomatic solution, we strengthen monsters
and undercut our defenders.

And don't believe the propaganda about this conflict rallying Gaza's
Palestinians behind Hamas. That's more little-brown-brother condescension,
assuming all Arabs are so stupid they don't know who started this and who's
dragging it out at their expense.
Gaza's people may not care much for Israelis, but they rue the day they cast
their votes for Hamas. Hamas is killing them.

Trouble."

gaza What happens when a fly falls into a coffee cup? The Italian - throws the cup and walks away in a fit of rage. The Frenchman - takes out the fly, and drinks the coffee. The Chinese - eats the [Citeste] fly and throws away the coffee. The Russian- drinks the coffee with the fly, since it was extra with no charge. The Israeli - sells the coffee to the Frenchman, the fly to the Chinese, buys himself a new cup of coffee and uses the extra money to invent a device that prevents flies from falling into coffee. The Palestinian - blames the Israeli for the fly falling in his coffee, protests the act of aggression to the UN, takes a loan from the European Union to buy a new cup of coffee, uses the money to purchase explosives and then blows up the coffee house where the Italian, the Frenchman, the Chinese, and the Russian are all trying to explain to the Israeli that he should give away his cup of coffee to the Palestinian.

Replace "Palestinian" with "hamas member" and the joke above becomes a sad truth that doesn't make anyone laugh anymore.

What can anyone do against Hamas? Nothing. The idea solution would be to have an international force take control of Palestine, get the infrastructure into a state sembling decency, try to kick start the economy and only THEN have free and democratic elections. But there's nobody to do that. The UN is a useless waste of money. It is up to teh Palestinians to shake the Hamas burden off their shoulders

Your posts are always great, shtuey. It's important for both sides of this issue to be made. The blogosphere has a tendency to spread opinion without fact until he becomes viral and everyone is thinking and repeating the same thing. It's very much like the Obots who believe everything they hear about Obama, even if it's proved to be false.

Thank you for all this information, you've helped me more than anyone to understand this issue.

Soopermouse, that would be great if you can translate that article for us, and the coffee joke...too true.

And thank you to our anonymous supplier of links.

Mirlo, glad this is helping.

Mary Ellen, the odd thing is that I get accused of being biased. I suppose that in the end I am as what I ultimately want is what is best for Israel. The weird thing is that what is best for Israel, to be free of having to deal with these broken terror regimes and creating a symbiotic economy with the Palestinian people who are governed by legitimate, democratic machinations devoid of genocidal Jew hating, is also what is best for the Palestinian people. Having been through this enough times, and especially now, it is obvious to me that there are only three possible explanations as to why Leftists don't see this: 1) They are woefully uninformed, but their propensity to identify with the "weaker" side allows them to override the need to do research. 2) In their hearts, they simply hate Jews, for all the tired baseless reasons we have faced persecution, massacres, discrimination, etc for the last 2000 years. 3) All of the above.

Like I said, very few of these dingdongs give a crap about the people in Gaza until Israel engages in a conflict; then it's sackcloth and ashes and wailing.

And I'll take your statement about the Obot comparison a step further and say that in many of these cases it is Obots spewing this crap. I expected better from PUMAs, and for the most part PUMAs have been willing and able to go beyond the surface. But how through the looking glass is this? On No Quarter everyone was bitching about Barry's relationship with Rashid Khalidi as a reason why we should stand in Barry's way to the White House. But just this weekend at NQ I saw someone post a link to a Khalidi editorial in the paper about his "truth" about Gaza.

So let me get this straight; with Pampers, Khalidi is a dangerous Arab radical and Pampers should be condemned for the association, but when Khalidi condemns Israel, suddenly it's okay to link to his articles. These people are so woefully hypocritical it's amazing that they don't vomit when they look at themselves in the mirror. Then again, it's obvious that a lot of them are just too stupid to notice.

Thank you, thank you. I had to stop reading NoQuarter and Cannonfire because their reasoning was so naive in regard Israel. You've put a lot of the pieces together. Thanks again

support for Israel from an unlikely quarter: Jerry Mondesire, head of Philadelphia NAACP, attended a pro-Israel rally last week in Philly. He spoke out in support of Israel, as did Senator Arlen Specter. The story is in last Friday's Philadelphia Inquirer.

I second everything that anotherpuma said. There are some good contributors on NQ attempting to present another side of the current Gaza conflict, I fear they are being abandoned as those - myself included - who can no longer tolerate the anti-Israel invective - leave the blog.
American Thinker is currently leading NQ in the weblog voting, by a very slim margin. If you want to make a statement against NQ, vote for American Thinker, today's the last day that voting is enabled.

p.s. Jerry Mondesire whom I referenced at the beginning of this post, was for Hillary in the primaries.
