Just thought I'd bump this up as it looks like Rep. Gillibrand is getting Hillary's seat. I think New Yorkers have a lot to be happy about if this is how it goes. I know a lot of you like Maloney. But you'll be thankful later that there's another Blue Dog in the Senate while Dirty Harry is trying to give away all your money to Martin Luther Lincoln Jr. Jr.
When I think about Caroline Kennedy's campaign to essentially buy Hillary Clinton's Senate seat, with the currency of culted personality, I cannot help but think of the joke my father tells about a soldier named Panzi. The C.O. has gotten word that Private Panzi's mother has past away. Knowing that Panzi loved his mother very much he struggled to find the most sensitive way to tell him the bad news. After wracking his brain for hours he left his office, lined up his men and said, "All those who think their mother is still alive take one step forward...not so fast Panzi!"
I never said the joke was particularly funny, but "not so fast Panzi" was our standard line when societal villains and other ne'er do wells who thought they were going to walk away with the cheese ended up having a bucket of tzuris (which is Yiddish for big trouble).
The media, as has been illustrated here, has been steadily beating the drum for Caroline Kennedy. Harry Reid thinks she's da bomb force. Mysteriously she has become highly qualified. Well, she does have more money than the rest of us. But overlooked by the media is the fact that the Governor of New York (remember him Harry? He's the guy who actually gets to make this decision), isn't exactly hot on the heiress to Camelot.
According to The New York Post, Patterson feels that Kennedy,
But I'm not interested in either Kennedy or Cuomo. In fact, as a policy I am avoiding the dross of this situation, and taking a closer look at the woman that Clinton supporters in the state seem to be getting behind; Kirsten Gillibrand. Let's take a look at what a qualified candidate for the New York Senate seat looks like.
Born and raised in Albany, she graduated from the Emma Willard School in Troy, the country's first all women's high school. She went on to Dartmouth, graduating magna cum laude in 1988. She got her law degree from UCLA in 1991 and served as a law clerk for the Second Circuit Court of Appeals whose jurisdiction includes the Districts of Connecticut and Vermont, as well as the Eastern, Southern, Western, and Northern Districts of New York.
She served as Special Council to HUD Secretary, Andrew Cuomo, during the Clinton administration where, among other efforts, she helped strengthen the Davis-Bacon Act of 1936 which states that all federal construction contracts, and the majority of construction projects operating with federal assistance of $2000 or more, must provide for paying workers no less than the local prevailing wage and benefits package for similar projects.
She was a partner at Boise, Schiller, and Flexner, doing pro bono work for abused women and their kids. She sat on the Board of the Eleanor Roosevelt Legacy Committee, the Committee on Greenway Heritage Conservancy for the Hudson River Valley, and the advisory board of the Brennan Center for Justice.
This Blue Dog Democrat, representing New York's 20th Congressional District, supports stem cell research, the Children's Health and Medicare Protection Act, is against the partial privatization of Social Security, and opposed now disgraced Governor Eliot Spitzer's plan to issue driver's licenses to illegal immigrants. Can I just say right here that I really like this lady?
In Congress she sits on the Congressional Agriculture subcommittees on Horticulture and Organic Agriculture, and the subcommittee on Livestock, Dairy, and Poultry. In the Congressional Armed Services Committee she sits on the subcommittees on Sea Power and Expeditionary Forces, and Terrorism and Unconventional Threats.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I think we have a winner.
In Caroline Kennedy's defense I will say that baseline she is a woman, so for those of us that are backing the 30% solution, she at least has that going for her. A little advice Panzi, don't start packing for D.C. just yet. The Governor hasn't made up his mind yet.

According to The New York Post, Patterson feels that Kennedy,
"doesn’t have the personality to be an aggressive fighter in the Senate on behalf of the state’s increasingly desperate need for federal financial help."
And picking Andrew Cuomo could remove possible opposition for Patterson in 2010.

No I said, don't crack on her. I am just adroitly walking the line. :)
i didn't, i swear officer! re-read it, i spoke of my life long adoration that is now being re-evaluated.
pfft.
:)
Miss, I'd like you to come downtown and answer a few questions.
Are you sure you didn't call her an airheaded stick figure who'd cry like a baby if she got her Clinique smeared or broke a nail? ;)
Offissa Krupke, I din't rat her out!
by the by, i was gonna yell at you for mentioning tommy christopher, the supreme puma hater and liar, but the conflucians did it i see. tommy had words for me once, and lemme tell ya, not smart to mess with blue bloods.
hey-i need to flush the freakin' format on my blog. it's 2 tight. any ideas?
I was unaware of the douche. I fixed it.
I had the same problem. I switched to minima stretch.
I feel like I have breathing room now. You can of course keep your traditional colors.
Interesting note: Harriet Christian has thrown her hat in the ring. While she doesn't have all that the above lady has, isn't it about time we had a non-politician take Hillary's seat. I believe that Harriet is a very smart woman. Not only that but she is a regular person just like us. I must admit I enjoyed meeting her in Denver.
She has a website: http://www.harrietchristian.net/
God save us from the Unqualified and Inexperienced! Don't we already have enough trouble with Bambi etal??
Kristin Gillibrand would be a first rate choice--or Carolyn Maloney--but for godsake, why must we insist upon sending incompetents to Washington??!
Caroline has never come within ten miles of any kind of political service, refuses to disclose any relevant information [now where have I heard THAT before...] and is less qualified to represent NY in the Senate than my yardman, who is extremely bright, is never shy and fought his way through Khe Sanh.
Don't you thnk that a sente seat for Caro was the price agreed in advange by Obama for Uncle Teddy's endorsement?
It look very likely that the same kind of deal had been made with Jesse Jackson, endorsement of Obama in return for a senate seat for Junior? Blagojevich screwed up that particular deal of course.
It may not be The American Way but it's how they do politics in East Africa...if you know what I mean :)
Sweet justice to think that Obama has been thwarted on Hillary's turf. I'm delighted that CK's support of the Resident will not be rewarded with the gift of Hillary's Senate seat. It would have been the final insult. CK isn't fit to step in Hillary's poopy, let alone her place in the Senate.
Minnow
on facebook, where there are a couple of pretend puma's, the consensus was for maloney. i was very much against her. she was prostituting herself on one of the bambi networks, touting her prowess and kennedy's lack of readiness on day one. now you know i was never for caroline, but i thought maloney's brass set were over the top. i would have been fine with cuomo because i truly believe it's the person not the gender nor race, but gillibrand is a great choice. i wonder what paterson had in mind before the heiress dropped her quest, but something tells me he wasn't caving to the pressure. i know you cited the NY Post, which i consider to be the rag of NY, but this time i tend to agree with what was written. carolwhine must have gotten wind that she was not to be the princess of ny, so she packed her vuitton luggage and abandoned the ship.
a victory for hillary, to be sure.
I was happy to see Caroline back off. She was going to be nothing but a rubber stamp for Obama. Hopefully, whoever is finally picked to take the seat, he/she will have a brain and a spine. Is that asking too much?
obama mouthpiece CNN is already trashing Gillibrand, playing up opposition from Carolyn McCarthy because of her stance on gun control. If I recall correctly McCarthy was a republican until her husband got shot and she found jesus and became a gun hating democrat. Now she's the voice of the NYC democrats? Anyone know if I'm right about the republican thing? I swear I remember hearing that when she ran. Her husband was killed and her son shot on the Long Island Railroad when some crazed lunatic opened fire. She became a democrat and ran on one issue--gun control. As far as I know that's the only issue she really cares about...but SHE is the face of real ny dems...arghh
Gary, that is exactly the story of McCarthy. She's a grandstander, using the horrible deaths to launch a career for herself.
They have to trash Gillibrand. She's a blue dog who won't roll over for MLLJr Jr. If there was ever a time for another blue dog in the Senate it's now, and not a moment too soon.
Meanwhile Pampers is launching yet another propaganda campaign in his never ending effort of trying to get all of American to love him. When are Americans going to stop making me want to vomit?
Shtuey- From what I've been reading on the blogs for the last few days, Obots are still making excuses for Obama, or just ignoring the facts. They take everything he does at face value and don't want to take the time to read the small print. Ignorant assholes, the whole lot of 'em. If Obama doesn't come out and give a ringing endorsement of the new Senator from New York, they follow along and just hate her, even if they know squat about her or her record. Damn, they're such morons!
