My mom told me about how her mom, an immigrant from the Ukraine, lit Shabbat candles, describing the process that was shown in Fiddler on the Roof. I went to a Conservative temple where I was Bar Mitzvahed. I went to the Bar and Bat Mitzvahs of the sons and daughters of my cousins, all Reform, and was taken aback by that version of the ceremony.Ronnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7764151925164944873.post-9748786100224844382010-08-06T18:43:57.405-04:002010-08-06T18:43:57.405-04:00Ron, you raise a lot of issues here. I don't ...Ron, you raise a lot of issues here. I don't have time to address them now, save one. The majority of Jews in America have assimilated, or are in the process of doing so thanks to Reform Judaism, and the failure of Conservative Judaism to effectively translate Jewish teaching and halacha to the next generations. Conservative Judaism was started out Orthodox with out the michitza. Now it's more and more looking like Reform with Torah readings.

Assimilating Jews became disconnected from their Judaism and their G-d, and now worship other gods, be they political, social, financial, etc. Those of us who are observant are a minority, and always have been. They don't call it the faithful remnant for nothing. Israel means nothing without Hashem. Judaism means nothing without Hashem. There are many who are beginning to see this, which is why the Baal Tshuva movement is growing. People see Orthodox Judaism as the place where it is still practiced, where it means something, and where there is a legitimate relationship with the G-d of Israel.

If you grew up in a home where your mother lit Shabbat candles, three generations previous I promise, your family was Orthodox. The pendulum needs to move back that way.

Shabbat Shalom, Ron. I'll write more on this after.Shtueyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05611947223509549389noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7764151925164944873.post-79733706477742503502010-08-06T16:58:00.115-04:002010-08-06T16:58:00.115-04:00Shtuey, not to change the subject but I'm havi...Shtuey, not to change the subject but I'm having a discussion with my wife about this:

A Child of the Century

http://www.saveisrael.com/others/hecht/hechtchild.htm

I'm trying to understand the mindset of the NY elite, the leftist Jews who wouldn't lift a finger to save Europe's Jews from the Holocaust and who earlier wouldn't save the Jews aboard the SS St. Louis.

I mentioned that these Jews were not like out founders because they wouldn't take a stand, wouldn't stand on principle, and didn't share the values of America's founders. Ben Hecht relates how the Ben-Gurion Jews tried to thwart the efforts of the Irgun by handing information over to the Brits. It was that same self-defeating, suicidal attitude seen in Leftists everywhere. With the Jews, though, there's something else going on.

When the Jews split to the four corners of the earth about 2500 years ago, it was every man for himself. There was no longer any country or temple or sense of community. The Jews of had to adapt and lay low, blend in, and avoid being noticed. They lived in terror. The Jews in the US who began coming here from Europe, especially the Ukraine, from 1848 on had to blend in here and avoid attention. All too many of them seem to have been influenced by Marx and Engels and became Leftist Jews who had little regard for this country. There was a lot of bigotry, racism and anti-Semitism here. They liked the freedom and the opportunity if afforded but the Jews had no love for the goyim. Look at the disdain in the expression goyisha kopf.

My theory is that Jewish progressives embrace progressivism because it's a way to gradually move the country towards communism in a subtle way. Look at Alinsky's Rules for Radicals. You want to change the system? Put on a suit, adopt the manners and the lingo, get yourself into a position of power, and then start to change the rules. Look at Elena Kagan. Nice Jewish woman who will soon sit on the Supreme Court but who has no problem with enabling sharia law.

Terrorized Jews learned over the millennia how to glide under the radar via stealth. They didn't like the environment they were in so they found subtle ways to terraform it into something more to their liking. I think it has something to do with disdain for the people.

Right now in Israel, leftist Jews are marching with Arabs in Sheikh Jarrah. What's a good name for these Jews? Something embarrassing and catchy?Ronnoreply@blogger.com
