It's the same in any lingo

How can one be compelled to accept slavery? I simply refuse to do the master's bidding. He may torture me, break my bones to atoms and even kill me. He will then have my dead body, not my obedience. Ultimately, therefore, it is I who am the victor and not he, for he has failed in getting me to do what he wanted done. ~ Mahatma Gandhi
If I am not for myself, who will be for me? If I am not for others, what am I? If not now, when? ~ Rav Hillel, Pirke Avot

Progressive Dumb Asses of America

I supported Ed O'Reilly in his bid to unseat Botox ogre John Kerry in the Massachusetts primary this past September. Ed seems like a genuine guy who stands for portions of the real Democrat agenda that I support. He lost to the Botox Ogre, and is now looking for people to help retire his campaign debt. I got an email today where he sent birthday wishes to a supporter Tim Carpenter of Progressive Democrats of America. This is an organization whose front page features an article by James Zogby of the Arab American Institute (who among other things, has aided and abetted Fatah terrorists), decrying the expansion of Israeli settlements in the West Bank, and Israel's "ruse" regarding the halting of settlements.

You want to criticize the building of settlements? Go right ahead. But while you do so you better be condemning Fatah, who controls the PA in the West Bank, for still refusing to recognize Israel's right to exist. Oh wait...it's okay to bash Israel for not meeting its obligations on settlements while ignoring the fact that the PA has failed to meet one of its obligations in any accord it has signed with Israel. Ooops, my mistake.

This bigotry, thinly veiled by mock outrage, is the hallmark of American Leftists. Spare us your bullshit if you please, dumb asses. Either condemn the violations of both sides or please shut the fuck up. Here's a newsflash to PDA: as long as Israel sees that the world is going to do nothing to end the reign of a government that seeks her destruction, settlements are going to be built as a means of mitigating the drawing of insecure, indefensible borders. Major settlement blocks will be part of Israel is the logic.

You want a halt to settlements? Halt Fatah and Hamas. Otherwise, shut the fuck up.

O'Reilly appears too be like many other people...anti-Israel or he wouldn't be hanging with that type.

I have not read or heard anything from O'Reilly to confirm that. His main issues were single payer healthcare (which I support, as long as the government doesn't get to have access to my health records, doesn't get to make my healthcare choices, etc.), locally owned and operated green utilities, ending the war in Iraq. The PDA supports these issues. Despite what has been said about me by certain bloggers, I do not automatically assume that those who are supported, or associate with anti-Israel or Judeophobic parties necessarily have the same stance. I would have to hear from O'Reilly on the subject before passing any judgement.

The problem with knee-jerk liberal groups is that they never find a cause they don't like. They seldom educate themselves on the totality of the issue, automatically jumping on the bandwagon of whoever is perceived as being oppressed. They used to love Israel when they saw it as David. Now, thanks in large part to propagandists and terrorist coddlers like James Zogby and Alexander Cockburn, Israel is seen as Goliath. Last time I checked Israel was still surrounded by powerful Arab nations with far greater amounts of money, power, influence, etc. It's not Israel's fault that it repeatedly defeated these countries in armed conflict.

Despite what everyone says, there is no Arab nation in the Middle East that has to worry about being destroyed by Israel. Israel has no interest in destroying its neighbors. The same correlating statement cannot be made vis a vis the Arab view of Israel however. So, we are to believe from idiots like Larry Johnson, Cockburn, Joe Cannon, and Zogby that Israel, surrounded by more than 20 nations that would rather see it gone, is Goliath. Whatever, morons.

shtuey- your remark above is absolutely the case. I also believe that part of the evolution of the anti-Israel left sentiment is, obviously, the previous assumption that Israel is being propped up by the US Military Industrial Complex, whereas the Palestinians were supported by the enemy in the cold war, so that anti-US leftist sentiment found an easy target in Israel. Clearly, it has always been more complex than that and is even more so now, where Israel is no longer able to rely upon US military support with much security. It really is in a risky situation, moreso than in quite some time, from my vantage point.

lililam, you make an excellent point about cold war perception. The Arabs and Israelis fought the cold war proxy war between the US and USSR for years.

It's interesting to note that in 1973, when the Yom Kippur War began there was no international outcry against the massive Syrian and Egyptian invasion, which was supported materially by Iraq, Libya, and the USSR, among others. But when the IDF turned the tide and Cairo and Damascus were in jeopardy, one time Nazi turned UN Secretary General Kurt Waldheim and the rest of the Good Jew is a Dead Jew club at the UN certainly couldn't stand up fast enough to call for a ceasefire.

Nothing has changed. Israeli towns get rocketed and no one says a word. Israel launches an operation to stop it (the fact that Olmert did this half assed in an attempt to sway the Israeli electorate is another story) and it's condemnation galore. The UN can go fuck itself with a rusty razor blade for all I care. The only thing more useless than the UN is the Resident.
